A Travelogue for Tourists and Our Future Generations

Places of interest in Pasir Ris:

1) Pasir Ris Mangrove Swamp

In the past, there were hardly any people here as the place was undeveloped, with no paths or anything, just trees and animals. So, it was very peaceful and quiet, with no one to disturb. It used to be a normal coastal area. It was only recently then the government added this place to the parks in Singapore. They added paths, toilets, an observation tower etc. Thus, more and more people visit this place due to it being more convenient for people to come. However, there is a downside to this. Some irresponsible people throws their litter anywhere they want, even though there are a lot of rubbish bins found throughout the swamp. People also disturb the animals living here. For example, I was making my way through the swamp when I heard a group of children on excursion yelling and talking loudly. Other than that, the mangrove swamp is very nice place. There is a variety of creatures living there, so, it would be a great place to go if you are a nature lover. Be prepared to bring an umbrella as it rains very easily.

2) Downtown East

Downtown is popular place for teens and kids to hang out. It officially opened its doors on 5 November 2000. In June 2004, Wild Wild Wet, the biggest water park in Singapore, begin operation. And in 2008, E!hub officially opened. It houses eXplorerkid, Singapore's biggest indoor family park. There used to be a small scale casino in Downtown East before it was replaced by Popeyes.

3) White Sands
Like Downtown East, White Sands is very popular with teens and kids. In the year 2007, White Sands Shopping Centre was brought under new management after being bought over by Asia Malls Management Pte Ltd. The Shopping Centre than under went renovation works which changed the exterior of the Shopping Centre as well as converted the Basement 1 Carpark into Retail Space.
